2026 Toyota Corolla Facelift REVEALED! New Look, Interior & Tech - Coming to Malaysia? (2026)

Hold onto your hats, Corolla fans! The facelifted 2026 Toyota Corolla sedan has just been unveiled at the FAW Toyota Auto Guangzhou booth, and it's sporting some seriously head-turning upgrades. This refresh is particularly noteworthy because the Corolla remains the world's best-selling vehicle, and this update aims to keep it at the top of its game after a remarkable seven years on the market.

The exterior gets a bold new look, borrowing design cues from the latest Prius and Camry. The front end showcases Toyota's modern “hammerhead” design, complete with C-shaped headlights. You'll also spot L-shaped bumper corners housing integrated fog lights, and a slimmer center air intake. The alloy wheels get a fresh design, reminiscent of those on the facelifted Lexus ES from 2015. Designers have also added a black triangle at the rear quarter light windows to visually lengthen the glasshouse, and a connecting illuminated red strip between the now smoked inverted L-shaped taillights.

But here's where it gets exciting... the interior has undergone a major transformation. The dashboard and door cards have been completely redesigned, incorporating full-width air vents and a second row of center vents. The center console is wider, now including dual smartphone holders (one with a Qi wireless charger). The Corolla keeps its 8.8-inch digital instrument display, but the center touchscreen has been supersized to a whopping 12.9 inches, running on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 8155 chip.

Controversially, the physical air-con controls have been replaced with in-touchscreen controls. This is a bold move, and it remains to be seen how it will be received in global markets where buyers may prefer traditional controls.

Under the hood, things are changing too. The Chinese-market engines are being swapped out for a 171 PS 2.0-liter M20E-FTS naturally-aspirated mill, likely paired with a CVT. There's also a hybrid model featuring a 98 PS 1.8-liter Atkinson-cycle engine, dual electric motors, and a new nickel manganese cobalt (NMC) battery. Toyota claims this hybrid variant boasts a combined fuel consumption of just 4.13 liters per 100 km and a range of 1,041 km!

The big question: Will this facelifted Corolla make its way to markets like Malaysia? Given the current generation's age, and the fact that the next-gen model is still in the works, it's a definite possibility. However, we might see a slightly less fancy infotainment system and a different engine, likely the same 139 PS 1.8-liter Dual VVT-i mill as before.

What do you think of the changes? Are you a fan of the new design, or do you prefer the classic Corolla look? And what about the touchscreen air-con controls – a step forward or a step back? Share your thoughts in the comments below!
