Bukidnon State University – Kalilangan Campus, in collaboration with the Kalilangan Women’s Federation and the Kalilangan Local Government Unit, hosted its inaugural Extension Program on December 15, 2025. The event took place at the Municipal Conference Room and carried the title “Women Sustainable Livelihood and Empowerment Program,” drawing participation from women representing the member barangays of the Kalilangan Women’s Federation.
Facilitators for the extension were faculty extensionists from both the Business Administration and Public Administration programs. The program featured two main initiatives: Project 1, WOMENtrepreneurs—Financial Literacy and Entrepreneurial Management for Women; and Project 2, WOMENgage—Equipping Women for Community Engagement and Leadership.
According to BukSU Kalilangan Campus, the goal of the extension is to empower women entrepreneurs by strengthening their business acumen, financial literacy, and leadership capabilities while promoting Gender and Development (GAD) awareness, informed decision-making, and effective problem-solving. It also aims to tackle enduring obstacles faced by women micro-entrepreneurs, such as limited access to resources, financial constraints, low entrepreneurial confidence, and the challenge of balancing economic and household duties.
Officials stated that the projects are rooted in inclusive and sustainable development principles. The initiative aligns with major national and international development frameworks, including the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), especially those connected to poverty alleviation, quality education, gender equality, decent work, reducing inequalities, and fostering development partnerships. It also supports the Philippine government’s Eight-Point Socioeconomic Agenda and AmBisyon Natin 2040, which envision a stable, comfortable, and secure life for all Filipinos through inclusive growth and economic resilience.
The program is woven into BukSU’s Extension Framework, BULIG (Unified Leverage for Inclusive Growth), which prioritizes community empowerment through comprehensive training, capacity-building, and lifelong learning. In line with this framework, extension activities concentrate on entrepreneurial management, financial literacy, basic bookkeeping, leadership development, and gender-responsive governance, enabling women to gain practical and sustainable livelihood skills.
Dubbed the Women Sustainable Livelihood and Empowerment Program (WSLEP), the initiative adopts a holistic, gender-responsive approach to women’s empowerment. It equips participants with the knowledge, skills, and confidence to strengthen and expand their micro-enterprises, boost household income, and actively participate in community leadership and local economic development.
As stated by BukSU Kalilangan Campus, the collaboration among BukSU Kalilangan Campus, the Kalilangan LGU, and the Kalilangan Women’s Federation helps build economically resilient communities and promotes a more equitable society where women are empowered to thrive, lead, and play a key role in sustainable development.
