Gauteng Education MEC Matome Chiloane has announced that scholar transport services will resume on Monday, following a commitment to clear full payments this week. The department has pledged to resolve the payment dispute with operators, which has caused many pupils in Gauteng to miss school. Initially, the department owed three months' worth of payments, but investigations revealed that the outstanding balance was for two months. The MEC confirmed that December's payments have been made, leaving November's invoices as the only outstanding amount. Matome expressed empathy for the frustration and distress caused by the disruption, acknowledging the inconvenience and regret for any disruption to scholar transport services. The department aims to process and pay the November invoices by the end of the week, ensuring a swift resolution to the dispute.
