Rangers Dominate Bruins in Road Sweep! Zibanejad Shines! (2026)

After a recent road sweep, the New York Rangers have bounced back with impressive force, achieving a two-game sweep of their own! This week, the Blueshirts capitalized on opportunities against two Eastern Conference rivals, securing a victory over the Hurricanes on Wednesday and then overpowering the Bruins with a 6-2 win on Friday afternoon at TD Garden, extending their winning streak to three games.

The Bruins, in particular, were significantly impacted by injuries, missing key players like David Pastrnak, Charlie McAvoy, Pavel Zacha, and Matej Blumel. However, these wins are still significant against teams positioned at the top of the conference. Imagine if they couldn't win against these teams in their current state; it would have been a real blow to the Rangers' reputation.

While the 4-2 win in Raleigh, N.C. was more challenging, the Rangers dominated a Bruins lineup that was, to be frank, not at its best. Boston struggled to score until early in the third period when Casey Mittelstadt managed to tap one in amidst some net-front chaos. But just one minute and 42 seconds later, Morgan Geekie scored off a shot from Henri Jokiharju, narrowing the Rangers' lead to two.

The Bruins stepped up their game in the final period, but the Rangers held firm. Alexis Lafreniere scored an empty-net goal, followed by Vladislav Gavrikov deflecting a Vincent Trocheck shot, extending the lead to four goals.

In the second period, the Rangers truly broke the game open, unleashing 17 shots on Bruins goalie Joonas Korpisalo while limiting Boston to just five.

A couple of high-sticking penalties by the Bruins, including a double minor on Hampus Lindholm, created openings for the Rangers to widen their lead. Mika Zibanejad seized the opportunity, scoring twice within 45 seconds, giving his team a 4-0 lead heading into the second intermission.

The Rangers took advantage of a weakened Bruins team early on. Just over three and a half minutes into the game, Will Cuylle stole the puck from Jonathan Aspirot and passed to Artemi Panarin in transition. Panarin, who led the team with four points, scored his third goal in four games, putting the Rangers up 1-0.

The Rangers consistently applied pressure, controlling the puck for much of the first 20 minutes. The Bruins thought they had scored later in the period when Riley Tufte put the puck into the goal, along with Rangers goalie Igor Shesterkin. However, the referees immediately waved it off, citing goaltender interference.

Carson Soucy then scored with a one-timer at the 12:02 mark, giving the Rangers their first 2-0 lead going into the first intermission of the season.

But here's where it gets controversial... Could the Rangers' success be attributed to the Bruins' injuries, or is it a sign of the Rangers' true potential?
