The Clause's Journey: From School Band to Headlining Birmingham's O2 Academy (2026)

The Clause: From School Band to 'Dream' Arena

The three members of The Clause, who met as 12-year-olds in the West Midlands, are set to perform at their 'dream' venue as they celebrate the success of their debut album. Their single, 'Victim Of A Casual Thing', has climbed to the 8th spot on the official UK album charts, surpassing renowned artists like Sabrina Carpenter and Elton John. The band's guitarist, Liam Deakin, 26, described the past few days as a blur, as the album's success became more apparent.

Frontman Pearce Macca, also 26, shared that the album tour will take them to notable venues, but their excitement is particularly directed towards headlining Birmingham's O2 Academy, an early ambition. Macca noted that the tour, commencing in Brighton on November 13, is the band's most extensive to date, taking them to venues they never imagined.

When the band started over a decade ago, it was a playful joke among them that they would one day headline the O2 Academy, Macca recalled. This dream will become a reality on December 19, at the conclusion of their debut album tour, which has exceeded their expectations.

Macca recounted how he first met Niall Fennell, the band's drummer, and Jonny Fyffe, the bassist, at St Peter's Catholic School in Solihull. They were 12-year-old strangers who crossed paths during lunch. They joined forces with Deakin, who they met at a gig by the band Jaws when they were 15 or 16. Deakin joined the band, and they began playing together for a couple of years, gradually gaining traction.

Deakin attributed their success to their dedicated fan base. They have no label or large management, but their success is a testament to the four friends' unwavering commitment to their music.

The Clause has already sold out multiple tours and supported renowned acts such as James, The Lottery Winners, and The K's. They have also performed at significant events like the Isle of Wight Festival and Radio One's Big Weekend.

Deakin described their recent success as 'wild', expressing surprise at their chart position. He recalled their excitement when they saw their name alongside Taylor Swift, Olivia Dean, Elton John, and Sabrina Carpenter on the UK album chart.

The O2 Academy gig is expected to be a memorable night for both the band and its fans, marking a significant milestone in their musical journey.
